Sutro writes that the story of the bet is fictitious but that the facsimile is of a genuine letter from Thomas Moore, who had recently published an edition of the letters and journals of Byron. Moore resolved the question of how Byron pronounced his name by writing that he used both pronunciations in the course of his life. Very good.
